It is a sprawling network of rivers, swamps, and islands that forms a crucial part of Vietnam’s cultural and economic tapestry.
The Mekong Delta has a total area of 40,577.6 km² and a total population of 17,744,947 people as of 2022. It consists of one centrally run city, Can Tho, and 12 provinces: Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau.
The delta spans an extensive area, and its key provinces play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s unique character. From the bustling urban center of Can Tho to the serene landscapes of An Giang, each province contributes to the overall diversity of the delta.
